Forget the past ?

Hi Keith another sad, emotion filled piece that i feel we can all relate to.

Painful memories I cannot escape
No matter how hard I try
They come to me in late night dreams
Thru the day their on my mind

I like this opening and as i said we can all probably relate to it as we have all no doubt suffered painful memories, some more than others and yes, they come back day or night but i feel the worse time is at night when you're trying to sleep.

Its like a haunting of times gone by
Revived to live again
Showing themselves when I'm just to the point
My heart is starting to mend

Ahh, that moment when you think things are ok then that someone or something appears back like a bad smell. I know this all too well as many others no doubt.

I try not to dwell on the painful things
That changed my life forever
A daunting task I've found this is
Without forgetting the past all together

I believe dwelling on those painful memories make them come back more but as you say we cannot forget the past because afterall it makes us who we are today.

This poem is something i am going through right now. I love how easily you connect with the reader and you pin your emotions so easily on paper. Great poem.

Life can seem unfair...clearly I'm not the only one! :) I like this...because the whole world could relate to it. Not one person could read this and say "I didn't get it"...that's pretty rad. Nice write my friend!

Very well written poem. One that almost all can relates to. Infact, unless you tried some meditations to relaxed the mind, it's very hard to take some things out. Sometimes our memories are so selective that, it choose whatever it want, and most times the sad moments are those that engraved their forever, but with time it can fade away and just store only i_n the back of our minds.
