Emotional Solstice

by Beautiful Chaos   Oct 28, 2009

A bitter wind blew through the reeds,
Inciting every falling leaf
To swirl around my swimming head
The colours of the life I led

Decaying love and failing trust
Trapped inside an awful rut
Symbolic browns, life in decline
Tarnished hopes wilt on the vine

Golden leaves speak of a time
When I was yours and you were mine
Brilliant red recalls the day
You bled me of that loving way

A heart lay beating on the ground
Swept up in what let it down
Drowning in its own regret
Scared of what it can't forget

Bits of green throughout the land
Reminding me how life began
Trial and error, end to start
Courage heals a broken heart

Strength to face these barren times
Believing winter shall refine
A heart, a soul, an ailing mind
The things I loved, but left behind

Truly evocative of experience I, too, have had..
    graphic and interesting images..

    One observation for your consideration..:
In the beginning you spoke in first person..'my head', I led, I was..etc
Then you changed to you and your...
I suggest this piece would be even more effective, and powerful, if you remain in first person throughout...

Disagree. It remains in first person throughout. "You and your", were observations made by "I"

^^These lines were my favourite...It was painfully beautiful....Trial and error, end to start - it normally takes tons of courage to sum up things, experiences, heartaches, feelings, dreams into that perspective...

I loved this line Jenn, It shows so much depth in your thought, that the wind actually incites the leaves to fall, excellent!

The things you loved, but left behind

An excellent way to sum up the poem....beautifully written!
