This Child

by Larry Chamberlin   Dec 16, 2009

This child clings to her cat
Falling asleep in the dark,
Hugging for warmth, and more:
Their bond of motherhood.

This child midwived this kitten,
Who, still baby, had her babies.
They shared the pain, the fear, of
Creating life and turning it loose.

Still years from her own children,
She bonded with timorous creature
In great need when she was there.
Now this child clings to her cat.
