The Last Christmas Gift

by Sylvia   Dec 21, 2009

Tis Christmas morn,
presents all opened except for me,
it's lonely here beneath the tree.

Once so special, now I'm just
the last Christmas gift,
name tag a little smudged,
red foil paper stained with tears,
frayed gold ribbon with a battered bow.

I'll be here again next year
waiting for you to return,
and accept this gift I offer to thee,
my heart and soul, love for all eternity.

Sylvia, your first stanza described me this Christmas.
It's a time of the year where we celebrate the birth of our savior and should be joyous instaed of sad.But we are of the flesh and as such we do tend to get very emotional.
Yet, this piece is beautifully penned.
    Take care.

Awwww.... I would do not leave that gift under the tree. After all that's the one gift I wish I had this year. Wonderful poem.

This was so sad, yet beautiful as everyone has said. What a unique piece, & quite effective I must say, almost made me cry. Awesome job.
