A Full Moon Tonight

by Kayla   Mar 14, 2010

That full moon is out again,
Shining bright into the night.
The girl holds her thumb up high,
Matching it perfectly with the light.

Her heart has been torn apart,
Since the day he went away.
Ever since he boarded that airplane,
She's wrote to him every day.

They only knew each other for two weeks,
But that's all it took for them to fall in love.
She longs to be reunited with her soldier,
As she stands in the horse pin putting on her gloves.

Miles and miles away from each other,
She stares at the moon every night.
Missing every moment spent with him,
Even the time of their very first fight.

Fate brought them together, then apart,
Yet they still love each other the same.
Who knew that first little hello,
Would turn into the love it became.

Wrote this poem after being inspired by the movie "Dear John". Whenever there's a full moon out, hold up your thumb to it. Because, no matter where you are in the world, the moon will never be any bigger than your thumb. That's how they stay connected through distance. <3
