A Mother's Last Prayer

by Poet on the Piano   May 14, 2010

Murky shadows suffocated
as heavy clouds pressed against my back.
I could barely breathe.

I knew only minutes remained,
my heart had to speak with all its love
before dawn would be nonexistent.

Bethany,
you are beautiful
I offer you my whole world,
and you know I would risk
everything for you
in a heartbeat.
You are my daughter
who shall never be forgotten.
Most importantly,
you are a child of God.
He created you in His mighty hand
for much more than many imagine.
You have inspired me
and brought this last smile upon my face.
Close your eyes.
When you awake,
you will be in a new world, a purified one.
Sweet morn' will reveal her beauty,
only to you.
This is where you belong.
At last you'll be safe at home.

I keeled over silently,
I could not fight anymore.
My trust was now in the Lord's Covenant.

All I wished was for her to be embraced,
given what I could not give.

Please let her live in your peace...
Assure her there is nothing to fear,
for she walks in undying lands of faith.
