Nightmares.

The back of your eyelids have become home to you,
the only place where you can feel safe
your dreams offer an escape from reality
even your nightmares are better than being awake

higher highs and have become a neccessity
as lower lows creep into your life
the darkness takes its hold on you
sending shivers down your spine

your eyes have grown increasingly vacant
you've slowly hallowed out your soul
over time you've lost your innocence
now you're left here shaking in the cold

with each passing second you fall faster
you're quickly forgetting the meaning of love
your chest is sinking, like an anchor
into a seemingly bottomless hole that you have dug

time has stolen away your sanity
and ripped away all hope you ever had in your head
it took your heart and threw it on the floor,
and no one believes it, but you're already dead
