Inspired by J Rowe, Melbourne poet.
Also inspired by this year's Durga Puja festival and by love.

God... how could I love your poetry more? I can't leave critiques on it, it's just beautiful.

I too love your poetry, and enjoy reading into them. This poem to me has a dark, fantasy feel, and I can easily insert myself into its content, if that is ok.
"I am still moving in" with a smell of burnt cloves in the air, "hold on." I want more, more, more, more. Enticingly written by a most talented Poetess.
    Peace and Blessings

Britt, my line-breaks were intentional, although they just started to break themselves as I wrote the poem... then I kept going with it because I understood where they came from and I liked the effect.
This is about as formed as my poetry gets. I used two-line stanzas of similar size with one slightly longer, lone line to end. I felt this visual style of reading highlighted the contrast between the long and the short sentences, giving them a subtle punch with little effort (the language used was very plain). Also, perhaps, the poem was structured to instill a sense of the self-consciousness that comes with being adored and of the precision that comes with being wary of it.

I dunno. What did anyone actually get out of this? Anything?

Hmm... I take this straight-forwardly. Sometimes I have trouble reading into symbolism. You are seeing someone with strong religious inclinations and they're moving in with you - and the moving in could be figurative, I figure. They are moving their being into you as you become a unit through shared experience? Regardless, you see Ma Durga as a powerful female icon that you must cohabit with if you want the relationship to continue functioning. This requires that you embark on a deeper journey in your relationship and accept that the seriousness is intensified, thus the potential ending of it pushed further from perception. Embracing a partner's religion - if it's a large part of their life - is a huge deal. Though while you're feeling anxious, filled with anticipation, maybe suffering certain levels of fear, you see the same fear in Ma Durga, for as you must accept her, she must also accept you.
I also feel that you see some of yourself in Ma Durga.
You know, I'm totally pulling this out of my ass. I do love this poem, the imagery is great, and I know there's something much more to your words than I'm picking up.
I'd like to read your explanation.
    Rambling complete.
    End.

By the way, I have no idea who Ma Durga :)
I hate being ignorant... but I'm too lazy to look her up. I have a pretty clear image of what she looks like from your poem.

I wasn't sure at all what Ma Durga meant, I had never heard of it, but after goggling it, it fits the lines you've written very well. It's a Hindu word, which means 'the invincible' - really thought this fit well with the first few stanzas, & it taught me something new as well. Hmm, not your typical poem that's for sure, it kept me thinking from beginning to end...nicely done.

I like to think that you find something of yourself in Ma Durga and that your lover looks and sees something entirely different then what you may but you're both looking at the same image. I love your words in this, it made me smile and feel at once.
