Realization

by Larry Chamberlin   Nov 7, 2010

Anger cuts through the family
Like a hot knife through Swiss cheese;
There's no neutrality here,
There are no innocent victims.

Up close & personal
You take your casualties,
Proudly swinging them
On sticks of perfidy & blame.

Harsh words and cold cocks
Belittle the whole to dregs
Of yesterdays hopes & wines:
Why me?' - a vulgar vintage.

Do not try to sucker me
With your trite professions
Of love & devotion - I've seen your
Traps sprung & your dead doves.

How often I flew into your caves
Looking for refuge from the sun;
Sucking up your torments while
Your market displayed my bones.

Now I say, Stop, I'm getting out of
This god forsaken place called home;
Even if I must duck forever shots
Fired by fiends & friends like you.'

Tell me bye, say good riddance;
Ya know you don't mean more;
You lied throughout our marriage,
Why start truth telling now?

Just get out of my way!
Don't open that door!
It's closed to you now for good;
& anyway, you don't really care.

You'll say it was a good ride,
You left the fair with the prize;
But this stuffed animal is outta here,
So don't leave the lights on for me.
