Background to Slavery

by South C   Dec 2, 2010

As a young black leader to his great full nation
He's made a difference on many occasions
With the knowledge built, he's certainly and individual
To keep away from danger, he's had a compact schedule
Born into slavery, his time was a so called limit
Seriously beat and abused, now tell me can you dig it
Not knowing his father, he's had to do it on his own
His mother leaving responsibilities to him, not once did he moan
Sleeping in a pallet, on his so called floor
The bugs beneath the dirt, would bite away at his core
The breeze was chilly, when it seeped through the cracks
He had no clothes, cause they were made of flax
Praying to God, he knew his time would come
A free man at once, remembering what he came from
Now attending school and working in the mines
He had to get an education, to progress in hard times
Dropping out of school and mining full time
He refuse an ran away, which made that a crime
Selling vegetables and fruit, he returned back to school
To show his hard working mother, he was no fool
From Richmond to Hampton, he finally got in
Hoping to graduate out his class, and make the top ten
He would work as the janitor, to pay off his debt
He had no choice, but to remain as the teachers pet
His mother had died, so now he had no advice
Well besides the man, we call the Lord Jesus Christ
After graduation, he became a powerful teacher
Teaching Sunday schools, like a part time preacher
Moving to Tuskegee, he was on a role of his own
Teaching young black men, which gave them a brand new tone
His marriage was successful, till his wife would pass
Showing life can be hurtful, but also fly by very fast
He married again, and she died too
Bad luck to his nature, believe this was true
Harvard University, gave his work a great name
An honorable degree, for him to put in his frame
He met Queen Victoria, by a fund that was raised
For his movement in education, it was his name the people praised
The mastermind from child slavery, he took a big step
Left on a continuing movement, which gave him a great rep
