A dancing flame

by Poet on the Piano   Dec 7, 2010

I never knew you were
so close to leaving.

I put out the lonely fire;
we would be no match
for winter's persistent stay.

After you nuzzled
against my woolen feet,
I heard angel voices
beaming from the
warmth of your
reflection.

And I realized
your restful presence
had restored heat,
filling my mind
with thanksgiving.

The blessing last
acknowledged
is the smile one
can never put into
words,
but feel in their own heart.
