St. Valentine Poem

We all associate the 14th of February
With candy hearts that say "Be Mine".
We always think of the baby in diapers,
But what about Saint Valentine?

Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome
Who liked to bring love to Christians.
This was against the law, however,
But this saint, he had a mission.

He'd marry two Christians in a candlelit room
Secretly because he believed.
It was only the bride, the groom and then him,
They'd whisper the words of the ceremony.

One night Saint Valentine heard footsteps in the room
The couple had escaped in time.
But for this Roman priest, it didn't look good,
Claudius the emperor wasn't too nice.

Claudius threw Saint Valentine in jail,
He told him his punishment was death.
Valentine tried to remain cheerfully
Until the last of his breath.

Many young people came to visit Valentine,
They threw flowers and notes above.
All of these people wanted him to know
That, they too, believed in love.

One of them was the guard's little daughter,
Her father allowed him to come.
She would sit down and they'd talk there for hours,
This little girl kept his spirits up.

Valentine wrote her a note on the day
That he was sentenced to die.
This note that he wrote her had clearly read:
"Love from your Valentine."

Take this poem about Saint Valentine,
As a simple reminder to have faith.
Forgive and forget, love with all your heart,
You know, it's never too late.
