The unpredictable Elf

by Larry Chamberlin   Jul 5, 2011

Moved into this shop awhile ago
cobbling shoes for a living
but found out soon it was haunted
by a shy and mis-talented elf.

Never know when to expect him,
but every night I leave out the leather.
Sometimes he comes, and leaves
me two right shoes - sewn together.

Other times a stack of orders
might be accepted overnight
leaving me the job of filling
too many requests so quickly.

If once I stumble into this place
and find him sitting here
so much I'd ask him, but mostly
"What in the world were you thinking?"
