Phoenix

by Aurora Dubnyk   Jul 16, 2011

The crystal lattice reaches out and forms itself to be a perfect, solid being
Uniform, though complex, seen through and through
I can feel myself change, this lattice like a widows web
Tangles itself around me, trapped! I want to thrash and panic
But I seem to be wrapped in a cocoon, one of hate, and suffering
Betrayal, distrust, rage, all these emotions! The ones that destroy and spread
Like a bright phoenix never dies, immortal and evermore
The taste of sweetness seems to dissipate, from that hideous fire
That inferno that rages once all the tears have scolded away
Red, red, red my beating heart angry against its cage
The bone there to protect only contains, it wants to burn itself free!
Natural warmth spreads through and through, that of lightning
Of dry timber being struck and bursting forth
A fiend dashing forwards to destroy all in its path
Phoenix! Come posses me! Take my anger, my hate, my entire dark self
Thrust it forwards with strength unknown to mortals, only known to the gods!
Make me! Burn me! Rebirth me!
I desire that power to see with use unclouded by love
Unfazed by foolish desire of comfort!
Heart! Break and burn to ash!
Take me on swift bright wings!
As I use this fire to destroy my love!
I will scream with fury, and attack with vigor!
Hate as my tongue, fury as my body, the fire at my core
I will succeed in my crusade, burning your heart away

  • WOW! I could feel your passion, fury and anger inside the words of this poem. Not since someone describes what mine did to them have I experienced the same. You have the way of putting your emotions and imagery of your poems together so that the reader can not only relate but mimic the feel of the poem as they are reading it. You are quite good, I'm honored to call you, in addition, my friend.
