Perfect family...or was it...

Running around the room playing with toys
I pick up my favorite toy gun
Chasing my brother around
We are having so much fun

Tackling each other, wrestling on the floor
Mom and dad are making dinner
I let you pin me to the ground
And you raise your arms, "I'm the winner"

Watching fireworks with the whole family
Holding each other in fear
As the lights turn into a loud bang
Mommy hugs me, "Honey, I'm here"

Camping together was always perfect
Making hot dogs over the fire
Swimming all day in the lake
Running around until we tire

I always loved getting tucked into bed
Mommy and daddy would kiss me goodnight
Sitting next to my bed to read me a story
Once I was asleep, you would turn off the light

I couldn't ask for a better family
We made the perfect team
Loving, caring, and lots of laughs
Perfection only seen in dreams

Another day of school, I get off the bus
I run inside to meet my family
Mommy is downstairs crying
"Mommy, please talk to me"

I run upstairs to find my dad
He stands with suit cases in his hand
"I'm sorry Matthew, I have to leave
I love you with all my heart, young man"

"But where are you going, what did I do"
"I'm sorry but I am moving out,
Mommy and daddy aren't together anymore"
I run to my room and begin to shout

"Why me, why us, please daddy,
Won't you just stay,
I will be a better son,
Please don't go away"

"I'm sorry Matthew, this hurts me too
Matthew, please don't cry,
I will still be here for you"
Tearfully he replies, "I love you, goodbye..."
