LEMON TREE

by patrick   Oct 14, 2011

I got me a lemon tree down my drive
Right at my front door
Clever things lemons
Ingredient for tea and washing up soap too

Take some time off to ponder a humble lemon
Marinate a steak or two
Cake mix as well
Not to mention Vitamin C scurvy beware!

JA! Like I said, I got me a lemon tree
Did not plant it, it is just there
Why, is hard to know
Wrong spot that lemon tree, away from home is he

Lemon trees do not give off much shade
But a screen from the neighbours
Like I said, clever thing a lemon tree
Grandson likes to climb that lemon tree a plus again

Some how I have an affinity with my lemon tree
Home to birds who nest up high
Bees come by from time to time a butterfly too
That lemon tree helps me stay in an ever-dwindling loop of nature

A twig or two helps start my braai
Like I said a cleaver thing that lemon tree
Any way it is at my front door
It helps to make my house a home
Oh! How I love that lemon tree, down the drive at my front door

I wish us English had the climate for one. Still, we have apples and pears and that'll have to do.

I love this. This poem has some really good vibes to it. Also, loving and finding joy on something that is simple is a beautiful thing. Great job on putting this kind of happiness in to words. Well done!
