The Last Goodbye

by Never Shall I Break   Oct 27, 2011

Two young lovers
Caught up in the fate of what they cant control
They'll hold on to each other
Hold onto what they stole
And they know this goodbye
Its all that they have left
Cause they cant just
Leave out the rest

The tears fall with every word of that goodbye
He whispers "I love you" like poison on his lips
She looks down to avoid his eyes
He seals his heart away with one last kiss
And then he walks away
And her heart breaks
With every step
He wants to look back
She wants him to turn around
He walks faster instead

She'd sacrifice and surrender
Just to have a chance at their forever
He'd give up the sun and the stars
To live with her in the dark
No, theres nothing beautiful about goodbye
When its said for the last time.

She holds that picture close to her heart
Kneeling on the grass of a cool, damp day
She's wearing his favorite old t-shirt
She prays the scent of it will never fade
Just recently he was making her breakfast
Signing her papers and folding her clothes
Just recently she said daddy I love you
And he smiled like the sun and held her close

But now he's 6 feet down
And her hearts gone
Blackened and dead
She wants him to hold her
Wants to speak to him again
There's stone cold silence instead

She'd sacrifice and surrender
Just to bring him back for forever
He'd give up the sun and the stars
To come back for her, save her from the dark
No, there's nothing beautiful about goodbye
When its said for the last time.

And as they stand there
With their hands tied by fate
Thinking about what
They'll never change
It doesn't matter
How many tears they'll cry
How much they pray
That they'll come back someday
And they wont remember, the look of their smile
Or the color of the eyes
No the last thing they'll remember
The last thing they'll remember
Is that one last goodbye.

And they'd sacrifice and surrender
Just to have a grasp at their forever
They'd give up the sun and starts
To mend their heart, escape the dark
No there was nothing beautiful in the those goodbyes
Because they were said, for the last time.
