Jealousy

by Meena Krish   Dec 17, 2011

When jealousy breeds...

It's like a wild fire
out of control.

To this raging master
you become a slave,

unable to realize
what is wrong and what is right.

Misguided bliss
becomes your tune

as you smile
at another's calamity.

To greedy thoughts
your mind succumbs

And your attitude
changes for the worst.

Take heed...

It is your life that will see its downfall.

For when jealousy runs in your veins...

It is you
that misery will caress.

I like it Meena a great poem about a raging emotion and you really described it well this raw emotion. what i liked is how few lines and words you needed to use. words like control, wildfire, calamity, worst, downfall and smile. the word smile captures your meaning very well in this poem been a human being this is certainly true that sometimes we smile at another's misfortune. your captured this emotion well in your poem.

Sounds like you speak from experience. i can relate. a little bit of jealousy can motivate you to improve yourself. but too much can drive you to hatred. in the same way, humility can lead to no self esteem or pride. and then it can lead to an inferiority complex. we must be careful to take all things lightly and with a grain of salt. too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

I like that this poem is a warning as well, should you succumb to jealousy it will change who you are as a person. nicely done!
