Free Bird Parade

by Maple Tree   Jan 2, 2012

Underneath these eyelids of mine
Are tears held in captivity
By strange looking soldiers, dressed in ivory

They are designed by my brain
To keep me in a comfort zone
So that I may function in today's society

I am a recluse at times, retreating alone
With an ink pen and desires of the heart
But I don't wish to express my fears

General public tends to brand the unknown
Escaping in my words is far more rewarding
Than walking around with a picket sign that reads

"I'm a free Bird that cries upon wind and trees
A chaotic catastrophe, waiting to collide with an
Oncoming train, so that my body shall spread
Like confetti, on a cold winter day, dusting this world
With one powerful, emotional parade...."

Wow, wasn't expecting an ending like it, what a powerful way to close a poem. The scene is so graphic and it creates a sense of sadness for me because you have wrote about how you hide your emotions because people who don't hide them draw negative attention. These people get misunderstood and also judged because of their feelings and how they cope.

I adore your opening stanza where I can relate to the tears being held like a prisoner under your eyelids, but it is you who won't let them fall.

This poem carries a deep pain and a very powerful topic of the depression and stigma in society.

    I loved it. x

Tyler says it like it is. It is full of truth many of us recognise all too clearly.
