Marie (Rictameter)

by Maple Tree   Feb 9, 2012

Marie
Is a beauty
Abandoned, locked away
In a scattered mind, hear her cry
Laced fingers reaching out, slowly falling
Her love calls to her each morning
A light only she sees
"time to come home"
Marie

Rictameter is a scheme similar to Cinquain. Starting your first line with a two syllable word, you then
consecutively increase the number of syllables per line by two. i.e. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Then down again,
8, 6, 4, 2 Making the final line the same two syllable word you began with.

    Oh how sad is this.

It reminds me of my grandmother who has the same condition and it is heartbreaking.

Well done with the formed poetry as well hun.

    Great job

It's been a long time since I read a poem of yours Andrea, still as refreshing as ever.

"In a scattered mind, hear her cry
Laced fingers reaching out, slowly falling "

you always were able to word things so perfectly and the imagery these two lines create all by itself is outstanding.

"Her love calls to her each morning
    A light only she sees
    "time to come home"
    Marie"

such sadness for an ending, but its one that works, I really like this poem, it stands for what sadness actually is in a poem.

One of my favorite forms to pen and you nailed it!

This is a very touching write, brings tears to my eyes and sadness to my heart yet a happy ending when Marie gets to be with her Tony once again.

Alzheimer's is such a hard disease for family and friends to deal with, my own mom has it and its so hard, I put on that brave smile with her when on the phone or in person, but once I'm alone it just tears me up.

You penned a beautiful piece here Andrea...
