I bought a Card

by Tangerine   Feb 16, 2012

At the sight of this greeting card,
I remember your sweet, shy smile
and the feel of your long, warm hands
So with an aching obsession,
like a frenzy culminating
right down to my very core,
I purchased it with all my heart.

I write down all the charming rhymes
Signing it with always and forever xoxo
And the last touch to my crazy ritual
is a very sloppy wet kiss at the back of the card..

Fear and shame froze my lips
I halt, just before the climax,
I withdraw and raise my white flag.
Without the mere intention of giving it,
I hide the bloody thing like a prominent evidence,
every bit of tenderness kept secret
underneath my pillowcase soaked with salty tears.

It's like a gallon of cold, rocky road ice cream
A deep, dark, guilty pleasure
Left alone to sit on the fridge forever,
with all the precious flavors unsampled
unmoved, untasted.
