Crux

by Lioness   Feb 29, 2012

You may just be
burning gas but
the way you sparkle
in the hours of darkness
appears so much
more poetic to me,

it's breathtaking.

Each night I would
gaze in the heaven's
with my father and he
would begin to
tell me about
the constellations.

One of which still
seems to be tainted
in my memory -
the Southern Cross.

The iridescent stars
would form a shape
which somehow
reminded me of
God.

Every night I
looked up
and stared at its
beauty and in
reflection, I thought
to myself...

How could I not believe?

    Wishing on a star.
The beauty around us we fail to see in the day, is evident at night,

a very thought provoking ending, as you know, I love questions in poems...

Beautiful piece of poetry Liz, as always

Liz, I just saw this, I missed such a beautiful piece which incorporates childhood memories, fatherly lessons and constellations part.

I love how you opened this. I was totally sucked in.
And the question in the end, it's so provoking.
I'm mesmerized with this a lot..

This poem reminded me of when I used to sleep at my grandma's house. We would sit in the second floor and there was a bed outside of the rooms. Where we could just lay there and watch the sky. My grandpa would tell us stories about the sky and sometimes about witches. So many good memories. Great poem.

Beautiful...I used to lie down in the garden when I was a child and contemplate the constellations. Loved it Liz.
