Toads

Silently waiting, just watching
for a mosquito to make a mistake
and fly a little too close.

    Hello Kay,

As I read this, I had in mind a formidable predator like a lion or tiger stalking its pre........mosquito? Ah, yes.....it was a toad after all (as the title should have placed firmly in my head!)

    All the best,
    Ben

Though a long time coming, Toads too
    have to eat, my favorite,
"for a mosquito to make a mistake,
and Fly a little to close; Gulp!

I have a beautiful painting of a an Adobe house below a Mesa, looking strikingly similar to a stealthy toad, a little path running in front of his nose, just waiting for rain to set him jumping. I ask my grand daughter, "what do we call this one baby girl" she says, "The Frog, Papa"..

    Kay,*

How on earth did you manage to make the imagery of a toad seem stunning?

You know I was living in a state where toads are considered pests, so much people do terrible things to them, hit them with bats, move them into a bucket and leave them in the sun... it's really sad and bothered me a lot .. and as I've told you I am unable to harm any animal, even struggle with a damn fly so for me living there was a bit difficult. In saying that though they are not the most beautiful creature on earth, whenever I'd leave the house at night they'd be in the backyard and they'd just stare, I used to run off so quickly! Point to this is ... you actually set another beautiful scene and made this about nature rather than cauldrons and princes and all what I expected when giving a magical toad prompt.

I liked how the poem is based on toads and yet the concept was about the food chain in my opinion. Hunting to be hunted basically.

This is another one of those short pieces which I love and you've done an excellent job with it.
