Preaching Poetry

by Natusha   Mar 19, 2012

I look back on poetry
for the sake of
my self kept promises.

I look back hoping
that someday
they will stop
accumulating
dust at
the corners of
my insecurities.

I look back on poetry
to understand you
to understand me
because it is only in
those terms that everybody
should be understood.

I want to remember
what compassion and
empathy sounds like.

I want to assert
to myself
that days can be hard
and challenging but
none the less worth it.

Thats what I constantly
seek and find in poetry.

That it is never
about me and
what I have to say.

It is what I said
that meant a whole deal
and managed to inspire,
to reveal,
to resonate familiarity.

After all,

there is nothing but poetry
on and idle monday morning

4 am

waiting for the sleep
that never came

with words camping
inside you head.

admitting to yourself
that it is only through poetry
we are able
to whisper to each other

how much we love,
unconditionally
without hesitations

to care for each other
in the way that we do

by using words

to ease

to relate

to touch

whatever that it is that
we are going through.

Wow... I absolutely loved this piece, it stood out to me more so than the other lines. This here made me feel so strong. Sometimes the lines of communication get mixed up and are hard to define where we stand - but in poetry, mixed within the metaphors and imagery, we find ourselves and our real feelings - we're able to understand a little better.

The only critique I have is the structure of the poem. The outline of it was a bit rocky, your line breaks were great until about the second half - I feel they were too broken up and as though they were two poems thrown together. The words themselves were amazing as usual, but the layout made me focus more so on that than the feeling and words you placed before us. :)
