The Edge

by Lioness   Mar 21, 2012

They always say
not to look down
but the way I was
feeling at that
moment -

how could I not.

I was standing
at the edge of
life and my
eyes sneaked
a quick glance
over the rough
ledge..

I could see
what felt like
a million miles
to the ground,
and sensed
I was entirely
alone -

though not
for long.

Everything changed
from the moment
that we met,
and my view on
life was no
longer
distorted.

I wasn't
expecting to
find heaven
until my last
breath.

I guess you could
see something
in me worth
saving...

that I couldn't.

*grabs tissue* Ok Liz- now I'm ready to comment :-)

Liz, this poem really got to me... within my life a few years back I too felt like I was hanging from a cliff, holding on for dear life by my toes! and then the light appeared and brought me out of the yukkiness... and that is why I was so touched by this poem... what a heart gripping piece this is, very nice!!!!!!

I think I've told you once already,
that I see tons of myself in your writing..

    for some odd reason really,
Whenever I read your pieces my mind
just go "damn, this looks like something I would write"

but I don't have to, you speak for me.

not only do I relate to this piece (specially the ending)

but I love how short you make your
phrases, I love your simplicity of language

and your pieces often contain powerful
messages, though this one has more of a sense, what to call it.. its kind of Bittersweet I would say? while its bitter that you couldn't see something in yourself, it is sweet that someone else could.

I enjoyed this from beginning to end

    you go girl :)

    Liz,

This piece gave me the chills by just picturing you standing near the edge and almost falling but then that someone comes and saves you, I find that to be romantic because at the end you said something like "you saw something in me that I couldnt see," and I love that. I like when people are able to see what we cannot see in ourselves. This piece aside from giving me the chills is inspirational because everyone can have that something especial that they don't see
    And you truly have it.

    Amazing piece.

Liz, This piece is outstanding. I loved the poem and it made me think of my own life and all the ups and downs I have had yet my boyfriend has always been there and I feel he saw something in me that was worth saving even though I can't really see it myself.

This poem spoke to my heart and I just loved it.

    Consider this nominated.

    5/5
