The Day We Never Met

It was the day that we met
you had me floating in the air
yes, it was a day I don't want to forget
from the moment you lightly brushed my hair
the harsh winter wasn't getting in the way
one kiss on my forehead, and I was completely warm
no questioning if I wanted you to stay
you could keep me smiling in a snow storm

until the day, I saw you happy
with another girl's hands intertwined with yours
what a fool I have to be
to let a stranger walk in my front door

and that's when I realized

you won't ever keep me in your embrace again
don't come back tomorrow morning and call me friend
no, we're not enemies, but I have to forget
that your love was full of regrets
from the day we never met

it was the day that we met
I had to hyperventilate
it was once a day I didn't want to forget
cause I thought you were a saint
sent to me cause I have begged
for a gentle person such as you
but all the beautiful words you said
turned out to be hurtful truth

cause it was the day you were having a good time
swinging with a little boy at a park
a picture from your house I recognized
guess the light really does brighten the dark

I don't want you to come back
and I'll pretend that I never saw that
you were prefectly fine without me
cause I've already realized

that you can't keep me in your embrace again
and I won't let you allow yourself to call me friend

from the day we never met

*this poem is dedicated to my cousin's six month relationship that took an abrupt turn when she found out that her boyfriend was already married with a son. It goes to show that you never really know a person, no matter how perfect they may seem.
