From Dusk to Dust (Collab with Tara Kay)

by Lioness & Tara Kay   Apr 12, 2012

Have you ever really
stared at yourself
in the mirror and
watched the way
your eyes would swell
just before you
breakdown?

I did that tonight...
right before the tears
fell.

Then, I drew lines on every
inch of my skin because
I wanted to keep the memories
safe, but they still
ran ragged in my mind...

along with the rest of
my unrestrained thoughts.

Am I going crazy?
for these emotions are
configuring my beliefs -

so much so that I cannot
tell what is reality,
nor what is distorted.

Perhaps,
since my whole life
has been surrounded
by darkness,
the latter is more obedient.

And,
even though we're
walking the same
path on the opposite
sides of the earth,
I've never felt so alone.

The voices echo
in the walls and the moon
hides the sun from my view.

Tonight, at dusk,
I lost everything
in a second, all because
I wanted to live.

Thanks to Tara for this wonderful collab. Please vote and comment on hers as well. Thank you!

Liz, you and tara clearly work well together. Both your styles macthed and you can see the effort put into the piece. I love how you cannot tell which part you wrote and which part tara wrote. You styles just flow together so well. I look forward to the pair of you doing more collabs in the future. Weldone girls.

    Have you ever really

^^^ That is an incredible opening question/ stanza, because yes I HAVE! And sometimes I'll do it just to watch my eyes change colors...I loved this opening!

I wanted to keep the memories
    safe, but they still
    ran ragged in my mind...

    along with the rest of
    my unrestrained thoughts.

^^ This is a beautiful way of putting the struggle of moving on...So relatable! To many!

    even though we're
    walking the same
    path on the opposite
    sides of the earth,
    I've never felt so alone.

^ quite enjoyed the irony in this stanza! So many in the world are walking the same exact past, wasting their life or going through the same thing in some way or another, yet we dont even know them and we still feel alone hoping someone knows what we are going through

Ladies you guys did a great job with this piece! Sometimes sad poetry is the best poetry!

You know, scratch my first comment out. This poem is really good, I can't figure out who wrote which.

The sadness can be feel and I still feel the need to continue reading it.
