April 14, 1912

by Lioness   Apr 22, 2012

Rusty and scarred,
a piece of history
lays silently on
a seabed, more
than twelve
thousand feet
below the Atlantic
Ocean.

Her design, thought
flawless, was to impress
the most of high class
travellers around the world -
her beauty lied within
her walls.

A ship, once believed
to be unsinkable, met
her tragic fate in 1912
while on her maiden
voyage to New York.

The majestic liner
was on her second
day of sailing when
the still waters and
moonless night
made the visibility ahead,
impossible.

At 11:40pm, upon the
frozen seas, she collides
with a sturdy iceberg,
unleashing havoc
and fear amongst
her passengers.

With courage and dismay,
they retreated to the
lifeboats, but alas, there
was not enough crafts
to save them all.

Woman, children,
(and one imposter) were
lowered down the side of
the vessel to safety.

706 people survived

1517 people died

A century since her
passing though her
beauty still lies
beneath the blue
where she will
always remain...

The Titanic.

The titanic was a captivating story and sad one as well. This poem is captivating too and it also shares important information to the reader and that's what I like the most that it was done in a poetic way.
