Poetry versus a Smile

by nourayasmine   May 1, 2012

Usually, I don't walk away
from my weakness
because when it's done fast
it's called 'running'.

I love poetry; it
speaks of everything inside of
me, starting with stars
ending at the edge of a
cleaver.
I love poetry when Winter
seems to sit cross-legged
beside my couch
spinning a woolen shawl
for her shoulders, thinking
that fleece might ever
warm cold hearts ...

I love poetry when it's meant
to break my heart, for
when it does
it proves that I do have one

... even if breakable.

Usually, I don't write
masterpieces because when
they smell so red, it's
called 'bleeding'.

Poetry loves me for I
allow it to be written, crooned
and heard
without losing its beauty.

I allow it to enshroud a
Narcissus in his palm
without turning into a
poniard ...

Usually, I don't smile
in my writes, because when
it's too overwhelming
it's called

'triumph'

Oh dear, this was wonderful! We all cling to poetry for different reasons and you expressed them with ease in this poem. I liked the consistency in the pattern of how you chose to form this poem. Nothing seemed redundant or out of place with everything complimenting one another.

^The imagery here was out of this world! I honestly could imagine everything you described without doubting anything you said. I just wanted to read this over and over again...You did a great job with this poem!

Noura, your poem just made me speechless! There is so much beauty in this piece, and I feel like throughout the poem I climb through many emotions, but at the end there is inspiration.

Congrats on the win! I will read this again this week, there's so much soul to it. I love it!

    Take care :)

I think this stanza is an awesome way to open a poem. I think most people try to run from their weakness which is what makes them the weakness to begin with (well I know I do). I think because for me I'm ashamed of it. Your first stanza has already begun to make me think, awesome! The title is also quite unique. It has drawn me in!

The images in your second stanza are just beautiful. I think the idea of rain and being cold tends to connect with our emotions more. I love this completely.

The third stanza blew me away. Yes writing how we feel does show us that even though something bad or good happened, we do have the hearts and souls to feel the emotions accompanied by the event. I think you have written this awesomely.

This whole poem was amazing. From beginning to end. Simply awesome!!!
