Spring Garden

by Lucy   May 6, 2012

A spring breeze,
Light,
Fragrant,
Whispers through tree branches,
Gently caresses new leaves of flowers.
An old stone path
Winds its way,
Sinuously,
Through the garden.
Bluebells border it,
Cerulean blossoms
Swaying daintily.
Tulips,
In all shades of the rainbow,
Add a vibrant splash of color.
A hummingbird,
Shimmering,
Delicate,
Darts among the gaudily colored tulips
Before hovering
To examine
Lush bluebells and hellebore.
Bumblebees sip nectar,
Flying from flower
To flower,
Filling the air
With their droning buzz.
An old crabapple stands sentinel,
Gnarled boughs providing testimony
To long years of vigilance.
Year after year,
The tree gives a gorgeous display
Of pink blossoms,
Whose rose-colored petals
Drift slowly down
To land on the loamy soil.
Misty rain begins to fall,
Sprinkling the blossoms
With drops of dew
Like tiny crystals.
