Purge

by Daisy if you do   May 22, 2012

Retaliation
settles deep,
swimming among
Adam's apples
dining with snakes
in pits of an empty
tomb

Purging words
dance with molars
and taps upon the teeth.
A jealous tongue
delights at spewing
words past lips
incline.

With bated breath
They nest among
the branches of one's soul
----------------------climbing
---------------climbing
----------climbing
To reach the very top

Some things are better left unsaid!

There is a great climax by the end of this piece :)

I remember when people first started using this format of writing, with "climbing" or "falling" or these kind of action verbs. Great choice.

    Kay,

I love the format of this poem, the way you set it out created a lovely flow. I also thought the climbing part was clever, it's something different that I really like but have never attempted.

I can relate to this, I often bite my tongue because I agree with your last statement. Somethings are really better left unsaid. The reference to snakes and adam's apples was a nice play on words.

    "taps upon the teeth."
^I like this, I've not heard of words tapping on the teeth but I could hear it in my head and sometimes it really does feel like that doesn't it.

    "bated breath"
^Nice alliteration but also a really interesting description. Again I have never heard of this at all.

    Another lovely poem, Kay!

Whats amazing is the fact that us humans can regret what we want to say before we even say it, or even regret not saying them, when its OUR choice not to....but thats exactly where that saying comes in, some things truly are better left unsaid, regret or no regret. Sometimes it saves from arguing or more hurt....this is a great piece that I know just about every person can relate to.

I thought you actually described this perfectly....as the words creep closer up out of our soul and are so close to spitting them out of the mouth but the brain stops them. Awesome imagery :)

You know, DD-- and have a firm grasp of Times. I like the description of Adam's Apples dining with snakes in pits of an empty tomb.
Only 1 tomb on Earth is empty.
I like also the assent of climbing to the top--merely bringing down a populous, to its utmost ruin. There is always a Remnant though. Peace and Blessings

I feel like this all the time. I always have so much I want to say, all these feelings pent up inside, and poetry seems to be the only way I can let it out, even if it is hidden. Sometimes what you want to say isn't going to make the hurt/pain/situation any easier, but only make you regret the words you WANT to say. This poem is perfect example of that.. and I love the imagery here, too!
