Cliffhanger

by SiLeNtLy ScReAmInG   Jun 1, 2012

You never said a word, didn't make one little peep,
Just left it to me to hold the pieces of a broken world in place,
But there are some things duct tape and superglue just can't put back together,
And so many scars time tried to heal, that I knew only you could erase.

I have to say the air doesn't smell quite like it used to,
It's been filled with the reek of stale hope and stagnating dreams,
I know best of them all that nothing ever grows from a withering seed,
But true love never dies no matter what it endures or how despondent it seems.

There was no closure to the chapters you wrote in my life, and on my heart,
Only a cliffhanger ending, that gave no answer or peace of mind,
It could be said I didn't see the forest because there was too many trees in the way,
Or perhaps I believed you that nothing could sever the ties that bind.

I can't excuse the fact that you disappeared without an explanation,
How am I supposed to understand, when you didn't warn me, or even seem to try,
Our last conversation I said "Mine", and you said "Always",
Never once hinted you were going away forever, or that this time you meant goodbye.

One of the best poems I've read in awhile. Beauty, sadness and regret, all told in a story fraught with meaning. Well done.

Wow, this hits my heart. :( well written with strong emotions. it's reeks of sadness but yet you still have hope that they will come back. the unknown is the worst; great poem 5/5

Very sad poem with some lines of hope in it (true love never dies).

Nothing is worse than feelings and questions unanswered. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    5/5
