A Box Full of Memories

by Hannah Lizette   Jun 2, 2012

It may sound childish
like I'm still a school girl
but I keep a box full of memories
just of me and you.

A wristband from the carnival from our first date,
dried white lillies because you knew they were my favorite,
love letters you wrote to me when you were in Japan,
faded pictures and movie ticket stubs.

I wish I could hit rewind
instead of always being on pause,
maybe even fast forward
so I can see our future.

I've had advice to burn this box
to not torture myself with thoughts of you,
never could imagine not having these special trinkets,
they remind me of our good times, not our bad.

--needs revised, just a rough draft.

Hannah, if this is actually true and you are still contemplating burning a box full of memories, don't do it. It would be a big mistake. Sometimes things from the past can hurt us, but they can also help us :)

I really like this poem. My favorite part was when you were listing some of the things that were in that box because it made the poem more relatable to the reader. It made the reader sympathize with you because they might have had/done the same things.

    Excellent poem

Dear hannah ,its nt easy to burn such boxes..
    Nice poem..sad too

  • It can be considered both healthy and unhealthy to keep this box. Unhealthy because.. As you have stated in the poem.. You could be torturing yourself by keeping it.

However, it could also be a good thing because you are remembering the positive aspects of the relationship - what it was all worth and why you loved that person.

5/5 for this one, rough draft and all! Seems great as it is. (:
