You Got A Curveball Coming Your Way

by Poet on the Piano   Jun 3, 2012

You can't say I don't have any more
home runs left in me
because if you saw how my heart
was humming, you would be shocked at its
valor, it's hard momentum-
that makes your next move indecipherable.

I didn't ask to be the winner,
all I did was act on an invitation
from those who you admire.
And those who are watching your face
from the stands, trembling behind
your own stakes, your own loss.

And though my arm is quivering
I still stand
with a pure heart
[I've traded the torn one
for much less dear]...

It's not my fault if you put up hoaxes
and thought that my visible flaws
would stop me from running
on and on
to where I've been awaited.

Just don't look behind you
for I threw a pitch at your starkness,
and you may never return home,
or even to muddy shame on first base....
'cause I've already caught the trophy
knowing that you can't make me
fall behind life.

When reading this I get the feeling that you are the pitcher, you have finally realised your own self worth , however the man in the poem is not expecting this. (Hence the curve ball)
Maybe his friends have helped you, Did he make you feel worthless and you have finally overcome this?
    (Valor should be valour )
I like how you change the voice in stanza 3 [I've traded one....]
Your character is at its strongest in the final stanza, this is where you prove you are better than him.
