I've Gone Mad

by Maple Tree   Jun 8, 2012

I've got a ghost in my pocket
and a butt full of calories,
years of dancing bare foot
and a bank account with a
five dollar savings.

For a very long time,
or so it seems,
my moods have dazed
the dizzy right out of me.

Now I've become a
forty something ballerina,
squeezing into a tutu
three sizes too small.

I sachet in the grocery isle,
spit rhymes at random,
and scare the bag boy,
but I tip him a quarter
and pat his head gently....

I'm a silly creature with a lot of pressure
on my plate at dinnertime,
who can't for the life of me
find a bra that fits these flap jacks
that I have grown over time..

When life gives me nothing but heartache,
that is when I bathe in a fountain
of roses and eat allot of ice cream....

This is what happens to a woman
who tries to dance normal
and reaches a point where
she just doesn't give a damn
anymore....

Andrea, this new look site genrated this poem as a recommended poem to read. I must say, this is the best thing this new look site has offered me so far.

This poem could only be written be a 40 something lady poet who has lived long enough to know that beauty is more than skin deep, but not long enough to still want to cling a little to youth.

Age it is a funny thing, we want to race to our first date, kiss, drink, then, before we know it, we are clinging for dear life to the memories of when we knew no better and thought that the world was sugar coated.

I had to laugh at your mention of 'flap jacks', perhaps, you could crumble them and pour ice-cream over them???

I personally think, we age like good wine and taste all the better for being older and covered in dust! lol

    Take care. x

This piece certainly made me laugh but the thing I found most funny about it is that a lot of people would be able to relate to it because it's true. Oh I loved it!!!

Awesome write hun, nice to see a funny poem from you!

I love this, I laughed so much! I love the sarcastic tone... there is a point in life where you seriously don't give a damn and just do you and don't care what anybody thinks about it! 5/5
