That was a tough challenge, umbrella, preposterous, and two more words in there as well as a restriction on the amount of words.

you did really good in this poem.

Very well written with incredible imagery.
The last 2 stanzas made the poem for me:

    I never knew
    that butterflies
    could turn into
    moths.

    At least that's what
    my heart did when
    you left me.

It really captures what happens when someones breaks your heart

Despite my fear of butterflies; Imstill loved the images you showed in this piece. And the fragility of your emotions and words were spot on.

    Great write :)

Liz, What always amazes me is the amount of emotion you emit into your poems...whatever the inspiration, challenge, idea or genre, you always pull it off beautifully

    NO EXCEPTION HERE GIRLY...

I loved this...Just the ending blew me away...

Awww... wow what an interesting yet sad poem!! First, I love the title, it caught my eye. Second, I like how you wrote from the perspective of a butterfly, and compared yourself to one, that was lovely to read... and it was really interesting to learn that butterflies turn into moths ... and how sad you became after someone left you... :(

    Great poem!

I love this poem, Liz. I believe that this is much more than just a poem for a contest...I can feel it in my bones as I read it.

I like how you used both a butterfly and a moth in here. They are so similar, yet so different. When I see moths at night, I sympathize for them because they don't look as beautiful as the other insects who are similar to them - butterflies, dragonflies...etc. - they look like a washed out version.

I have to say though that the part where you said "I was your umbrella" was a little awkward for me. It didn't quite fit, but I know you needed that word for the contest.

    "I never knew
    that butterflies
    could turn into
    moths.

    At least that's what
    my heart did when
    you left me."

^ I have to say that this was my favorite part because it wrapped everything together. You began with describing something beautiful to something that is so dull and washed out. This part also had quite a bit of emotion in it too and that makes it all the more wonderful.

    Beautiful/excellent poem

Sad to read, but it is indeed beautifully penned.

The differences between the butterfly and moth are similar yet they are both different. Nice approach to the poem.

    Well done.

Liz has managed once again to make me cry... I'm going to have to start buying tissues in bulk just because of her poetry alone :-) She has this elegant way of taking a butterfly and creating a huge and powerful message, filled with sorrow... that leaves me blown away and of course In tears...

    "I never knew
    that butterflies
    could turn into
    moths.

    At least that's what
    my heart did when
    you left me." <----
The ending is what really got to me... wrapping the metaphor of the butterfly to moth and linking it to a broken heart... was what sent me over the edge... I too can relate to that ending ... I applaud this author once again for a very heartfelt and touching write! Well done Lioness
