Body Image ( accrostic triple senryu )

by Baby Rainbow   Sep 9, 2012

Beautifully thin
Or skeleton poking through,
Difference so fine.

Young girls eating less
In order to meet standards
Made by role models.

Anorexia,
Guilt encrusted in each bite
Enemy to health.

Young girls envy these models and want to be just like this... thin and 'beautiful' ... but in reality, most of that is photoshopped and most look so sickly to me. People associate skinny with beauty...and that is farthest from the truth.

Anorexia, as well as Bulimia, is such a serious disease that needs promoted so more young girls will know about it and try to prevent it. Body Image work shops should be held in schools, I think. For girls who think they have to do it to feel pretty.

  • This poem brought models to mind - some of them are so unhealthily thin! And also actors - these people are role models for young women!! It's depressing when young girls aim to be as thin as their favourite celebrity because that is society's image of perfection - and perfection is what most strive for.

    Stanza 1:
As you mentioned in the first stanza there is really a fine line of difference between the image of 'beautifully thin' and 'bones' - I think it really depends on the person's perspective because to me the image is quite the same, it's just the opinion that is different.

    Stanza 2:
The dieting! - and most people don't do this in a healthy way at all. It really is sad seeing people starve themselves or spewing food back up just to remain skinny like the celebrities that they see. I really feel like the media should get tough on who they put on screen or photograph because the image of 'beauty' that is being presented is really harming people. Something honestly needs to be done.

    Stanza 3:
I love this stanza! That second line especially - I get the ridiculous image of a young girl scowling at a meagre amount of food and reluctantly taking the tiniest bite possible - both funny and sad in my eyes.
