I blinked

by Wafaa   Oct 7, 2012

Under that blazing ball of fire, I stood,
holding a cup of green tea in my hand.

On my right, there it was,
the mountain's majesty.
I admired it
while a soft, gentle breeze
caressed my cheeks

down that mountain,
a waterbright river
snaked its way between the rocks,
filling my soul
with the appetite of life.

On my left, a virgin forest
spread its trees before my eyes
and all I could do
was to gaze
at the glory of the universe

At that moment, I blinked.
~~~
The sky became foggy
The sun did not shine
The river stopped breathing
The mountain lost its crown
My feet once connected to Earth,
started trembling,
all I felt was dry land.
The forest became unpure
crying for help in desperation
I started looking everywhere
for a piece of green land
but, I was late.
It was all in the reach
of human hands.
That forest was my lungs
man's greed made it a smoker
with his expanded factories,
and industrialised areas,
the forest and I became weaker
My green tea turned black,
my heartbeats got faster,
my eyes lost their light,
and my soul lost its master.
    Wow I've never read a nature poem with such truth. I can see every word as if I was there . You've done a fantastic job.
    My green tea turned black,
    my heartbeats got faster,
    my eyes lost their light,
    and my soul lost its master.
    The last stranza really did seal it.
    Special and imaginative piece.
    Beautifully penned Sonia.5/5
    Love the way how we humans are destroying our blessed gifts of nature for our greed .Can see it here in India lot of agricultural land is being used for developing of industries.
    Mankind has to make real efforts to maintain a balance.....
    Way to go, Sonia.
    I found the 'virgin forest' scenery so alluring :D
    And... your ending has this magical touch of showing how you were affected by destroying nature. As if you and nature had one soul, and what happened to it was transmitted to you.
    Great!
    This was very beautiful and relaxing to read, you done an amazing job and really created wonders in this poem, Each stanza on its own held such clear imagery of what you were describing.
    Not many people respect the world and all it has inside it and all nature is, but luckily there will always be people who do.
    Nice work.
