Eolin aideul (Little Children)

by Hellon   Dec 22, 2012

I saw trees wrapped
in hessian to protect them
from winter's chill
for they are the new born
babies...The Japanese
stole their toddlers....

I saw crops
lovingly covered against frost
so that another harvest
will eventuate

I also saw children
who are considered orphans
although they still have parents
...grandparents
born into a world seeking
perfection in vegetation
yet...choosing to ignore a
child that is not as appealing
as that prized plump
tomato.....

An important poem, Hellon - one with a message that you shout loud and clear here. Poems which are pleasing to read from a poetic point of view AND say something important are, in my eyes, artistic. This is great.

A few nights ago, the temperature dropped pretty low and I saw under a bridge a mother and her child (who looked to be about 8 or 9).. someone had stopped to give them a blanket, but then a few miles further I saw a small field and all the crops were covered up so that they wouldn't suffer damage. This poem sort of reminded me of what I saw that night. I'm not sure if this is what you intended in its meaning, but it was all I could think of. Thanks for sharing.
