Priceless Poetry

by Chelsey   Jan 27, 2013

I'll have you know, I wrote a poem five minutes ago
and erased every word. Would one present a King
with slop for dinner? - No. Then neither shall I
present to you feelings that are distasting.

You deserve elegance, enchantment, words
draped like chandeliers in mansions. Words
spiraling down a mahogany staircase that land
at the foot of your polished marbled heart.

If only my words could be wrote in gold, my i's
be dotted in pearls, the punctuation ending
with diamonds. If only I could pen poetry that
shows you your value, the cost I'd pay for you.

Until then I'm stuck with scratch paper and
lead. Until then I'm stuck with words that don't
amount to anything I have to say. Until then, you'll
have to make due with me showing you your worth

without the expense.
