Daddy

Daddy, Daddy,
I dreamt of the devil.
He was chasing me.
He was coming after me.

Daddy, Daddy,
I need your loving embrace,
Hold me--
Tell me it's all just a dream.

Daddy, Daddy,
I dreamt you made a noose of electrical wire.
I dreamt you drilled holes in the ceiling.

Daddy, Daddy,
I dreamt you called mom right before you jumped.
She called 911.
Firefighters started your heart again.

Daddy, Daddy,
I dreamt the doctors told me you wouldn't make it.

Daddy, Daddy,
I saw my aspirations flash before my eyes.
You wouldn't see my high school Valedictorian Speech.
You wouldn't see me graduate at all.
You wouldn't walk me down the aisle.
We'd never have a father daughter dance.
You wouldn't be able to come to my dental practice.
I'd never be able to buy the Audi you wanted.

Daddy, Daddy,
Why aren't you here to hold me and tell me it's all just a dream?

Daddy, Daddy,
The devil is still chasing me.
Why did you let him catch me?

God I wish my dad was here too. I wish my dad was able to walk me down the isle. That's going to be the hardest part of life.
