Hitchiker

Highway expanse
and I'm entranced
by the possibilities
of being anywhere
I wanna be

White lines
drawing the journey before me.

n' Then
Eyes
blinded
momentarily
by the glare of headlights
casting a spotlight upon me

n' strangers
getting a damn good look at me
in all my my vulnerability...

But at this point
all I know
is that there's a
somebody
sitting behind those
windshields
and
steering wheels
and that somebody's
got a personality
and a history
that I
know nothing
about

But y'know its all the same to me...
leave the details and fine print to destiny
'cuz I've got places to go
and people to leave...

so without further ado
I stick my thumb out
and bid adieu to the life I formerly knew...
(and my former acquaintance with reality in general.)

then I construct a big
pretty smile on my face
as if to say,
"Hey, I'm no psycho
you can trust me.

Then
the next pair lights
approach and
my heart
is beating in my throat

But this time
this time
there is an
unexpected twist

the pick up truck
slows down and turns around
A guy in a cowboy hat flashes me a smile,
and unlocks the passenger door

and although this is what I've been waiting for
I must admit
that I feel
a little naked.

The starting stanza and this line:

    White lines
drawing the journey before me. -

    and then the ending...

and although this is what I've been waiting for
    I must admit
    that I feel
    a little naked. -

well from start to finish, made me hooked on this piece!!!!!
