A Daughter Has Come Home

A Daughter Has Come Home
By Mark Spencer

A brand new life, so full of grace,
A little smile upon her face,
And here is where her tale begins.

A winding road stretched out ahead,
No way of knowing where it led.
And time moves on, as the world spins.

She is her mother's pride and joy,
Then all grown up she meets a boy,
A daughter soon becomes a wife.

And she has children of her own,
She keeps them safe until they're grown.
So goes the journey of her life.

And when her parents pass away,
It is a sad and lonely day.
A day when tears fall like water.

For with them gone, she's incomplete,
A part of her feels obsolete.
None remain to call her daughter.

The past becomes a memory
A world across a cosmic sea,
That can't be reached but in a dream.

In dreams she's still a little girl
Racing the wind, and chasing squirrels,
Beside a quiet mountain stream.

She misses her mom and her dad,
That special bond each of them had,
That only sons and daughters see.

She had that bond as mothers do,
Both with her son, and daughters too.
Like roots that fortify the tree.

But the earth kept right on spinning,
As she reached the final inning,
Of a life, ending much too fast.

And when she looked back at her road,
She saw the many seeds she sewed,
And realized the truth at last.

Life is a tale of loss and gain,
A journey filled with joy and pain,
An evolution of the soul.

Where caterpillars learn to fly,
Each one becomes a butterfly.
This is the spirit's greatest goal.

She was a sister, aunt and wife,
A grandma in her later life;
A loving mother all the way.

And with the Lord, at heaven's gate,
Her mom and dad warmly await...
Their daughter has come home today.
