Firefly

by Daylight Lucidity   May 11, 2013

The moon whispers starlight upon my veranda
As I sit out in the cool kiss of night
Wrapped in a quilt made from my grandmother's yarn
With tea nestled snuggly betwixt my hands tightly.
A romance novel lays open on the coffee table upon which I rest my feet,
A tale of lovers running from the disapproval of authority,
I smile at the page which is dog-eared
While my face flushes a deep pink like the tips of a lily.
My eyes glance at her silhouette in the distance,
Surrounded by brilliant fireflies twirling like glow sticks
Leaving the shape of a heart outlining her, as I ask how, per chance,
Was I able to capture a firefly myself? She is truly magnificent.
They illuminate her finest features- all of her
I close my eyes, a tear of happiness escapes, and is caught on my cheek
Where it twinkles as if a star; lilacs taint the air
Coloring it with ribbons of violet streaks
Which erupt from the bushes below the porch on which I sit.
My eyes open once more to find her laying on the grass
And I know it is to her I always want to commit
And I hope, deeply, for many summers to come, we will last.
All is quiet in our little backyard
The trees are still, animals are asleep,
Then I hear her sweet hum as she peers at the stars
While my little firefly grins in their keep.
She is my dream come alive,
My little forest nymph singing and loving
Breathing love into every sunrise
And creating my heart's musical thrumming.
With finality I close the book, the chapter finished,
While a new chapter in my life is just beginning.
