Witness to Bold Affection

by Mimed Lovette   May 25, 2013

I could feel a love once missed
passing in between the paused gasps of two lovers.
The sudden draw of petaled breaths
when both laid eyes on each other,
a deliberate encounter long due-
five years too long which seemed like forever.
It was as if withholding one's breath would allow
time to hold still
and delay the signs of parting;
as if tampering with the beat of their hearts would disrupt
the fragility of a forgotten romance.
Yet the coyingly sweet reminder of an ambrosial kiss
locked away 'neath the fluttering wings of an unfinished affair
garnered the strength of a Griffin to set the passion aflame
once again...

Free verse poetry inspired by an impactful scene from The Great Gatsby.

    I've been wanting to comment on this one but the site kept logging out my account (except now. haha)
    Great inspiration for writing this. What stood out for me was "petaled breaths" I loved that! As I did the whole poem. Great job, Landy.
