Ramble ramble

I wrote a poem, and it was a long poem
about hummingbirds and lilypads,
About how I wished I was a hummingbird.

I am a man
and I utter under my breath when drivers
obey speed limits and when sightseers meander
along back country roads.

I blow smoke in the face of the night
and wonder how the yellow tinge of sky
must look from other angles.

I am a man in love with a woman.
I smoke and I get the scores wrong
in football matches. I read the messages
on doormats and I talk about the weather.

I saw a lilypad in my years ago,
I wrote a long poem
and I unfastened from my heart.
