Fall

by Chelsey   Oct 11, 2013

Fall,
Where did your colors go?
Leaves of amber and magenta sprouted from brittle limbs
when I was a girl and Maple, she made sure to leave crisp
remnants in a pile for me after school. Bright colors and brown
barks were pearls against the sky's decolletage'.

You always dressed proper, fall.

I'd like to know why my cheeks are not kissed with the sting
of your wind and why the sun remains distant from my planet.
Or maybe the sun is just not rotating ...in my world?
Have you turned your back on me the way summer turns her
back to October?

Fall,
Can't you see that I am hurting? Your night reigns in my mourning.
Trapped in this black hole of sorrow, I cry because I remember
when you were beautiful. When life meant breathing your air.
Now you're nothing but an unresponsive heart beat.

I like this a lot. It's not the kind of structure I'm into, but you've got a knack for it. Keep writing :)

All I can say is WOW - I love how you began this poem with just one word and then build up so much detail with rhetorical questions as well as the detailed descriptions of the leaves, colours and the season of fall itself.

    You always dressed proper, fall.

Short and sweet as well as so powerful and effective, I like how it is a personal reflection and statement - a true nature of a great poet!

I love your reflections here, talking meaningfully to the season like it will answer back, allowing the reader to also step back and reflect on the same questions - deeply effective technique!

It's heartbreaking that all of the beauty of fall is now a total dark season for you, they say poets understand all emotions of life better then anyone and this is proof.
Something so tragic can create something so beautiful.
Your words hit me hard as autumn was also a dark time for me. Your a true poetess and an inspiration to everyone.

The second stanza had my heart drowning then the last verse just stopped it.
