By My Side

by Dominique Lewis   Jan 28, 2014

I look down at the ground with tears rolling down,
Body trembling in fright as I see my nightmare come to life,
You are there next to me and see my poor frown,
Your hands grasp mine putting away the knife.

Always there for me when I am feeling blue,
Standing by my side every single day,
You softly kiss my pale bruised cheek and my heart flew,
Why do you make me so gay?

I love you so much,
Promise you won't leave?
I will surely miss your touch.
You stay there though and I smile in disbelief.

You wrap your arms around me,
Silently say you aren't that easy to get rid of,
My heart jumps with glee,
I am glad that you are my love.

Love is a beautiful thing and it feels good to know that special someone will stand by you.

The thing that stood out to me is using "gay" very rarely do I see it used as happy. Very unique and well done. I really enjoyed the way you started this. There was a tone of sadness here and using the knife proves that. But you added love to it as well when the person you love was there to hold your hand. Then after that you pour your heart out for this person. I again loved how you paid attention to the smallest detail that makes love special. The ending is nice too. Love took away all of the hurt you feel inside. I really enjoyed how the story enfolded. At the start you were cautious but by the end you fell more in love than you were before. Beautiful
