A Special Thank You

by Burning Angel   Feb 18, 2014

Your hands are callused from years of hard work.
Your graying chin is a sign after nights of being hurt.
Your eyes hold a story of hurt and pain.
While your heart keeps others strong, keeping everyone else sane.

You think no one notices the broken softness in your voice.
But, I have been watching you, my own choice.
You have laugh lines that are starting to cover your face.
But, you have taught me to never regret a choice I have made.

There have been times when we did not agree.
But, still you always help keep me on my feet.
We have both spent nights crying in bed.
You kept me strong, kept the voices out of my head.

You tell me I can, when the world tries to knock me down.
And you know i am upset when my lips share no sound.
Mistake after mistake, you never gave up on me.
You taught me to always make my own choice about what to believe.

Thank you daddy, for taking us in.
You could have walked away, the way other people did.
You taught us to always stay strong.
Told us that pain never last too long.

Thank you Hero, for helping me in life.
You are still teaching me, helping me hold my head high.

The dedication here is wonderful and I don't think a lot needs to be said. You loved your dad very much and the imagery is very beautiful. The story is also great. As I said I don't know what to say about this poem because it speaks for itself. You really did a great job writing this. I think every girl thinks their dad is a hero and this is no different. Great write!
