Indelible

by Hannah Lizette   Mar 15, 2014

Poetry haunts her -

her veins are channels
of indelible ink that
sail from heart to
fingertip,

each word throbs like
a broken bone that
healed two years ago
yet still aches every
time a storm cloud
sheds a tear.

Sometimes they scatter
like unswept glass and
prick him while he
waits like a question,
picking up the pieces
of her adjective hangover
before he finally sighs,

"Even beauty mourns."

While she knows she
needs to grovel at
his feet and kiss
the lips that nourish her,

all she can think of
is how his words
taste like inspiration.

    Sail from heart to
    fingertip,

    - Wow Hannah! This is so powerful, I adore this little image here of the words literally coming from your heart, right through to your fingertips and onto the paper! Wow!

    like unswept glass

    - seriously?? You have the most amazing metaphors up in your brain! I think this one stands out well because it shows how dangerous it is for the glass to be lying there, and also the pain it can cause.

    waits like a question,

    - dammit! This is so cool. I guess a question is always in waiting until we answer it, I never really thought about that before. Nicely done.

    "Even beauty mourns."

    - I love seeing little lines in poetry that really jump out and stand alone, this could be read alone and not need any words to back it up at all. Such a powerful line, meaning, and message. It opens up a whole avenue of thoughts.

Beautiful wording throughout the poem Hannah, nice story, as well as wording, and as always, a title that makes you go on google.

    Brilliant job!
